New Zealand Water Polo chooses 2XU to power athletes through to 2022

2XU is proud to welcome New Zealand Water Polo to its world-class network of athletes, sports team and associations, with the elite sporting body choosing 2XU as its official compression and high-performance apparel partner through to 2022.

The agreement will see New Zealandโ€™s leading club, junior and senior national water polo athletes โ€“ as well as New Zealand Water Polo coaches, referees and staff โ€“ kitted out in the worldโ€™s best sports compression and apparel as they chase future success on the international stage.

2XU Global Custom Channel Manager Charlie Reid said he looked forward to seeing both club and elite-level water polo athletes train, compete and recover in 2XU at community and international events, including this yearโ€™s World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.

โ€œ2XUโ€™s mission is to help athletes of all abilities achieve their true potential, and weโ€™re excited to now extend this support to New Zealandโ€™s elite and emerging water polo athletes,โ€ he said.

โ€œ2019 is an important year on the international water polo calendar, and we know the research and development invested in 2XU compression and apparel will pay dividends not only for the national teams competing at the World Championships in July, but for athletes of all ages and abilities participating in the sport at a grassroots level.โ€

Designed and tested in consultation with leading sports scientists and athletes, 2XU compression has been proven by the Australian Institute of Sport to increase peak power by 5%, increase blood flow by 18%, reduce muscle movement by 19%, reduce muscle soreness by 47% and reduce heart rate by up to 2.5 per cent for exercise bouts up to 15 minutes โ€“ these benefits and many more will help water polo athletes nationwide pursue continued success in 2019 and beyond.

2XUโ€™s high-performance apparel, to be worn by athletes, coaches, referees and staff, features the worldโ€™s leading performance fabrics and technology, with benefits including ultra-advanced breathability, moisture management and lifetime odour protection.

New Zealand Water Polo CEO Chris Wilson said the agreement was a coup for the nationโ€™s water polo community.

โ€œNew Zealand Water Polo is delighted to announce this partnership with 2XU. New Zealand Water Polo is committed to competing at an international level to the best of our ability, and partnering with a world-leading sportswear provider in 2XU will help support all our athletes to reach their peak,โ€ he said.

โ€œThe impact of the partnership will extend to our referees and coaching personnel, with the opportunity for clubs to also join the 2XU family.โ€

New Zealand Water Polo is the latest in an extensive global network of athletes, sports teams and associations to select 2XU as its official compression and high-performance apparel partner, including the Australian Institute of Sport, High Performance Sport New Zealand, Rugby Australia, Athletics New Zealand, Netball New Zealand, Rowing New Zealand, Triathlon New Zealand, the Vodafone Warriors and USA Triathlon.

Founded in Australia in 2005 and now present in more than 40 countries worldwide, 2XU is the sportswear brand of choice for the worldโ€™s best athletes, sports teams and associations.
